SPORTS DAY

It was an absolute pleasure to host the pupils from Taunagh National School for our annual sports day! A massive thank you to all the teachers, parents and past pupils who all worked together to produce such a fun filled day!

Sports Day 2018

Sports Day 2018The children in Taunagh N.S. and Coolbock N.S. had a wonderful Sports Day together. Many thanks to the staff, parents and pupils in Coolbock for hosting yet another brilliant Sports Day. The children enjoyed doing the sprint race, lemon and spoon race, three-legged race and the sack race. After some tasty treats, they did some orienteering, a tug of war and finished with an obstacle course inspired by Ireland's Fittest Family. Without doubt, a fun-filled day was had by all!

MUSIC GENERATION GALA CONCERT

What a wonderful evening of music at the Music Generation Gala Concert that took place in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo. The pupils from Coolbock joined over 150 pupils from other schools on stage for a celebration of their musical talents. The pupils performed on the Cello in front of a packed audience of family and friends. The pupils are in their second year of cello lessons which take place for 14 weeks every year in the school with tutor Anna Houston, a member of dynamic folk orchestra band No Crows.

Thanks to Rhona, Emma and everyone in Music Generation Sligo for all their hard work in the project throughout the year. Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education Programme that transforms the lives of children and young people through access to high quality performance music education in their locality.

CO-OPERATIVE GAMES FOR PE

Our Senior pupils enjoying some co-operative games during PE. Games are a valuable means of helping children to work together in a caring and co-operative way. They can raise the level of co-operative consciousness and help children to realise what they can learn from each other. Games include all children and they give children the opportunity to practice a range of skills, to be a member of a team, to raise their self-esteem and to be effective group members.

BIRDWATCH COOLBOCK

We have been making great use of our new nature trail camera that was installed by our Parents Association. We set it to record the activity at our bird feeders. The still camera works on a motion sensor and picks up any activity day or night!

The children get a chance to check it every few days and compile bird reports on what they have found out. So far, we have identified the blue tit, great tit, goldfinch, chaffinch, house sparrow, crow and the robin.

We will be placing it at ground level next to see what kind of activity we can pick up!

Recycling Workshop

You are invited to join us at Coolbock N.S for the Parent Association’s Love Your Environment Recycling Event in our school on Monday 19th February at 7pm. Recycling Ambassador Imelda Ryan-Jones will deliver an interactive workshop on recycling. Children are welcome to attend with you, as this event supports our Green-Schools programme. We look forward to seeing you all on the night.

VOICE Recycling Ambassadors are running free interactive workshops and events all over Ireland to help the public to know what items can be recycled in their household recycling bins and how to avoid contamination in their household recycling bins.

The Recycling Ambassador Programme is a VOICE (Voice Of Irish Concern for the Environment) programme funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment and supported by the three Regional Waste Management Offices. The programme also partners with REPAK and the Irish Waste Management Association.

A Winter Wonderland…in Spring!

Cool Hairdos Coolbock!

We had a great time at ‘Cool Hairdos Coolbock’ this past while. It was a very busy place! The children took turns being stylists and customers and there was a great array of hairstyles to be seen.
We had a table where the children brushed, combed, plaited, curled and designed great hairstyles on our willing dolls.

The children compiled price lists, wrote lists of hair styles and wrote stories about going to the hairdressers and created hairstyles using wool. Well done to all the children.
