SWIMMING SMILES

ASTHMA EDUCATION TALK

MARINE EXPLORERS

We had an adventurous day out on our seashore safari at Strandhill beach today. We got the opportunity to participate in the Marine Explorers Education Programme. The pupils had a school workshop with David Horkan, followed by a field trip to the rock pools of Go Strandhill beach at low tide. We found some very interesting little creatures hiding under the rocks! And of course, our rock-stacking competition was “rocking”!!!

The Explorers Education Programme provides fun lesson plans, resources and activities for primary school teachers to inspire their student’s interest and knowledge in our ocean, marine environment, species and seashores.

POTATO HARVEST

The children planted seed potatoes last spring. They grew over the summer and we harvested a great crop of 26 potatoes both big and small! There was an air of excitement and anticipation as we investigated the soil. The children were very surprised how many potatoes grew.

They then enjoyed delicious wedges made from our homegrown potatoes which was a big hit!

ATHLETICS FESTIVAL

Even Storm Ali couldn’t slow us down at the Supervalu Athletics Festival held in IT Sligo Knocknarea Arena today. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part in the 4 x 100m relays and 200m sprint events. A massive thank you to everyone in Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership for a well organised event!

BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

Our first day back at school – so much fun catching up after a lovely Summer holidays! A special welcome to the new pupils in our school – we look forward to sharing many special memories in the years ahead!

VISIT FROM SLIGO’S FIRST CITIZEN

We had a special visit from the new first citizen of Sligo to Coolbock. Congratulations to Cllr. Martin Baker from Riverstown, who has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council.

RAISING OUR GREEN SCHOOLS FLAG AS WE BID FAREWELL TO 6TH CLASS PUPIL

What a lovely way to finish off our school year by getting the chance to raise our new Green Schools flag. We have been awarded our fifth flag on the theme of biodiversity. We celebrated the day by planting an apple tree in the school to mark the occasion. The tree was planted by our youngest and oldest pupil in the school, and it was a fitting farewell to our 6th class member who is heading off on a new adventure. Slán a bhuachaill agus go n-éirí an bóthar leat!

WHEN THE BIRD’S AWAY, THE SPIDER WILL PLAY!

A spider getting a closer look at our camera in the Coolbock Bird Box! Don’t worry – the spider won’t appear through your phone screen!!

HOME IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE COOLBOCK SPARROW

The Coolbock Sparrow making some home improvements to its nest in the bird box. The live feed camera has been a great addition to the school and we are very lucky to have such a “handy” parents association who take on these great initiatives to support the pupils learning in so many ways.
